Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information VeriFix collects when you use our AI-powered news verification platform, how we use it, and the choices you have. VeriFix is operated by the VeriFix team. If you have questions, contact us at privacy@verifix.news.

Information we collect

  • Account data: email address and authentication identifiers when you sign in (e.g. via Google or email).
  • Preferences: topics, regions, languages, reading depth, notification and cookie choices you set in the app.
  • Activity: stories you open, bookmarks, search queries, verification submissions, and AI-summary requests — used to personalise your feed and improve results.
  • Device & log data: IP address, user agent, and basic diagnostic logs for security, abuse prevention, and reliability.
  • Content you submit: URLs, text, or forwarded messages you paste into the Fact-check tool for verification.

How we use it

  • Deliver, personalise, and secure the VeriFix service.
  • Run AI verification, summarisation, and translation on stories and submissions.
  • Send notifications and digests you have opted into.
  • Detect abuse, prevent fraud, and comply with legal obligations.

Legal bases (GDPR)

We process personal data under the bases of contract (to provide the service you request), legitimate interest (security, product improvement), consent (marketing, optional analytics, non-essential cookies), and legal obligation.

Sharing

We do not sell personal data. We share limited data with:

  • Trusted service providers that help us host the platform, store data securely, and run AI verification on our behalf, under contracts that restrict how they may use it.
  • Analytics — only when you have enabled analytics cookies.
  • Authorities when required by valid legal process.

Retention

We keep account and preference data for as long as your account is active. Reading history, search history, and AI memory are retained until you clear them or delete your account. Server logs are retained for up to 90 days for security purposes.

Your rights

You can access, export, correct, or delete your data at any time from Settings → Privacy, or by emailing us. EEA/UK users may lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority. California residents have the rights described under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know, delete, and opt out of sale/share (we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising).

Security

We use encryption in transit (TLS), row-level security in the database, restricted service credentials, and least-privilege access. No system is perfectly secure — please report suspected issues to security@verifix.news.

Children

VeriFix is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We will post updates to this page and, where required, notify you in-app before material changes take effect.
