How VeriFix verifies information

The verification flow

    You send the text, link, forward, post, voice note or clip you want checked.

    Understand the claim

    The specific, checkable statement is separated from opinion and framing.

  3. 03

    Find relevant sources

    Reporting, official records, primary documents and prior fact-checks are searched.

  4. 04

    Compare evidence

    Supporting and contradicting material is placed side by side, with dates and origins.

  5. 05

    Assess the claim

    The weight, independence and recency of the evidence are considered.

  6. 06

    Produce a verdict

    A verdict, a confidence indicator and a plain explanation are shown with the sources.

    Update as evidence appears

    Living stories and fact-checks are revisited when new evidence emerges.

Source discovery

VeriFix searches news reporting, official and primary sources, and existing fact-checks for material that speaks directly to the claim. Sources are shown with their publisher and date so you can weigh them yourself, and known reliability signals about a publisher are taken into account rather than hidden.

Evidence

Evidence is presented in two directions: material that supports the claim and material that contradicts or complicates it. Where sources disagree, the disagreement is shown instead of being averaged away.

Confidence

Confidence describes how strongly the available evidence supports the assessment at the time of checking. It is an indicator, not a mathematical probability and not a guarantee of truth. Low confidence usually means thin, conflicting or very recent evidence.

The role of AI

  • AI helps discover, translate and organise information.
  • AI assists with research and summarisation.
  • AI does not automatically make editorial decisions for newsroom fact-checks.
  • In the FactCheck Workspace, human researchers and editors review the evidence and are responsible for the final verdict, the published wording and any correction.

Multilingual verification

Claims can be submitted in many languages, and VeriFix can use cross-language research — evidence published in one language can inform a claim circulating in another. Sources are shown in their original language with translation where helpful.

Living stories

Many claims sit inside stories that keep developing. VeriFix tracks those stories over time and updates the evidence, timeline and assessment as new reporting appears.

Corrections

Published fact-checks can be corrected or updated. Corrections are recorded and shown on the fact-check rather than silently replacing the earlier text. If you spot something wrong, tell us and include the source.

Inspecting the sources

Every result links to the evidence behind it. You are meant to check it — the point of VeriFix is to make the evidence easy to see, not to ask for trust.

What we do not claim

VeriFix does not claim to be 100% accurate or to deliver guaranteed truth. VeriFix is in Public Beta; results may improve as evidence and sources evolve.
